Jade Hurley is, without question, the enduring performer of Aussie music ... his longevity is the legacy of unbridled enthusiasm and a passion for taking his brand of entertainment to all corners of Australia and New Zealand.
The piano pumping showman, whose fans range from 9 to 90, can still pull ‘em in from Kenthurst to Kalgoorlie, from Melbourne to Mt Isa, with his ability to make Old Time Rock ‘n’ Roll, Peggy Sue, Running Bear, Lucille, Runaway, Sweet Little Sixteen and Great Balls of Fire sound as fresh and vibrant as the day they were first tickled on the ivories.
From Six O’Clock Rock it’s been one helluva ‘knock’.
Jade Hurley IS the King of Country Rock.
Amazingly, Jade is showing no signs of hanging up his diamantes and thrives on a hectic tour schedule that would stop younger performers dead in their tracks.
In 2005, Jade Hurley announced he would undertake an ambitious round Australia and New Zealand tour using a Jayco Motorhome as his means of getting from venue to venue. It would be his tour bus, his dressing room, his home away from home ... the piano man’s ultimate chariot.
Fittingly, the journey was called the “Rockin’ in the Jayco Motorhome tour”.
And, typically, the show goes on and on and on ...
Yes, Jade Hurley is always ready to rock. And yes, the Jayco Motorhome is always ready to roll.
ROCKIN' IN THE JAYCO MOTORHOME TOUR
“The tour was always going to be an ambitious project – the sheer logistics of organising so many dates and venues is mind boggling to say the very least.
Previously we would use hire cars, troop from hotel room to hotel room and, naturally enough, facilities vary from town to town.
So, the Jayco Motorhome has been manna from heaven and I don’t mind saying it’s given me a new lease of life.
The Motorhome is just so easy to drive. I’ve always – ALWAYS – hated driving. But now I never get tired of it.
I’ll give you a for instance ... recently, my wife Barbara and I drove from our home on the Gold Coast to the Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club in Sydney for a packed-out show, got back in the Motorhome and drove to Brisbane for another show at the Norths Leagues and Services Club at Kallangur and then, three days later I was back in Sydney for another gig at the Mt Pritchard Community Club. That’s something like 4,000kms in just on a week!
For a bloke who never used to like driving that’s not a bad effort! A clear indication too of how comfortable the Motorhome is to handle is that Barbara also does some of the driving.
Jayco has not left one stone unturned in making the Motorhome the ultimate touring experience. You can drive it on an ordinary car licence and it meets the weight requirements for EVERY state.
Probably the best way to sum the Jayco Motorhome up is that it’s trouble free and so user friendly. I’ve always loved performing – I wouldn’t be doing it after all this time if I didn’t! But, prior to the Motorhome, the other aspects of touring could become a drag: driving to a hotel, lugging all your gear in and out, finding a place to eat etc.
But by using Jayco RVs, the entire dynamics have changed. We head off now – Barbara and I in the Motorhome and my road manager and his partner in a Campervan, and between us carry all the gear – lighting, sound gear, musical equipment ... the lot.
And for those of you who have seen my stage shows, you’ll understand that the costumes and custom made shoes alone present a logistical nightmare! But the storage facilities in the Motorhome are just incredible. It’s the ultimate dressing room.
Another convenience – or should I say ‘mind saver’ - is that you don’t need to even use a caravan park. All you need is to find a place to run your electricity from and a tap!
Not so long ago I was touring Western Australia and due to perform at the Goldfields Art Centre in Kalgoorlie – one of the biggest concert theatres in Australia and a tremendous venue. We just rocked up to the theatre in the Motorhome and asked them to point us in the direction of a tap!
I got a real laugh when the manager said to me: “We’ve a had a lot of performers at the theatre over the years, but this is the first time we’ve had one stay in our backyard!”
I guess the best way to sum it all up – from my perspective anyway – is that tours can be high pressure. For example, in October we start our Melbourne and Country tour and will be appearing at Dandenong, Sunshine, Watsonia, Rye, South Oakleigh, Wantirna, Lilydale, Sebastapol, Frankston, Melton, Bairnsdale and Wonthaggi inside the month before heading straight to Tasmania.
But even after all this time on the road, I’m really looking forward to it. I don’t get tired of it and I put most of it down to the Jayco Motorhome experience. I’m not kidding – it’s given me a new lease of life.
To know you can just jump behind the wheel after a show, enjoy the sights of sounds of this great country, stop somewhere on the way and cook yourself a meal - basically chill out in the privacy of your own Motorhome ... well, I reckon it’s magic.
Rockin’ in the Jayco Motorhome ...
It’s the only way to travel!
I look forward to seeing you at one of my shows around Australia and New Zealand in the not too distant future and make sure you keep your eye out for the Jayco Motorhome.
Until then, take care and Keep on Rockin’!”
