Masterchef Winner Brent Draper: Jayco’s Newest Vanbassador

6th May 2024

After hopping off a plane from Japan on Monday with the two kids in tow we did a quick bag drop at home then headed straight back up to Brisbane the next day to pick up our brand new All Terrain Off-Grid Jayco!

We were absolutely frothing to see the van and to experience the magic of a Jayco handover and I’ve gotta say – it was everything and more! The team were so helpful, and the handover was really thorough, there was heaps to remember but it was exactly what we needed to make sure we get the absolute best out of our time in the van.

Driving out of Jayco felt surreal, definitely a ‘pinch me’ moment haha!

We picked the van up the week of Easter and within two days of having it in our hot little hands we were headed south to one of our absolute favourite camping spots in NSW – Red Rock.

Red Rock is a special place for us, it’s the very first place we stopped when we traveled around Australia back in 2021 with our son Alfie. We met a lot of great people there, cooked up some beautiful seafood and it’s where our love of traveling Australia on the road really started so it made sense to us that it’d be the first place we went with our new caravan!

It’s safe to say the trip was an absolute success with no major or even minor hiccups along the way (which was nice for a change haha!). The weather was cracking with a couple of light drizzles here and there but nothing could stop us from having an absolute ball in the new van. We spent a fair bit of time checking out all the features, figuring out where to put and pack things and Shon was a bit worried when she realised that I needed a lot more space than we originally thought for all my herbs and spices. “Ah well” I said, “We’ll make it work” haha! Alfie was absolutely stoked with his new bunk bed, I reckon he used the ladder about 300 times in 5 days!

I love to cook outside and especially on the fire and Easter is one of those times where I usually go all-in when it comes to cooking up a feast for the family! This year on the menu I decided to keep it simple and easy because we were all pretty tired from our trip to Japan. We had our families come down for Easter and because I wanted to give the new BBQ a whirl I decided to do a big roast! I chucked on some beautifully spiced roasted cauliflower, a roast chook and the most delicious sweet potato bake with a salad and zesty greens. It was delish.

We had a fair bit of down time during this first trip so I got to spend some time perfecting my pizza doughs. We cranked up the pizza oven one afternoon and had restaurant-quality pizzas that had a few of the neighbors stopping by for a geeze – so funny!

All in all I’d say our first trip in our new caravan was a success and it was an absolute breeze thanks to our All Terrain Off-Grid Jayco having literally every feature we could ever need in it. Can’t wait to get back out there real soon!
