Spring is the season to pack away the winter woollies and take advantage of the warmer days throughout Australia. Traveling around Australia during spring will generally be less crowded making it a great time to explore and divulge in some of Australia’s major events that take place in spring.
1. Explore the beautiful wildflowers, WA
Kings Park in Perth, WA is a hub of flora and fauna and each September, many of the state’s 12,000 wildflower species blossom, dotting the grounds in fierce shades of yellow, pink, blue, red, green and even black and is celebrated during their annual Kings Park Festival. Given Kings Park is larger in size than New York’s Central Park the yearly occurrence is nothing short of breathtaking.
2. Birdsville Races, QLD
Coined the Melbourne Cup of the outback, the Birdsville Races is horse racing like you’ve never seen before. Crowds of 6,000 racegoers converge on Birdsville each year to enjoy two day of quality outback racing and entertainment and it’s an event famed for it’s camping experience and caravans are welcome at Birdsville Caravan Park. The event is located in Birdsville, Queensland and on the 6th & 7th September of 2019.
3. Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, VIC
The Phillip Island Grand Prix is motorcycle racing’s best address. Each year, fans of two wheels descend on the infamous track to see world-class athletes race against gravity with each turn is cast against a stunning backdrop. If you live and breath MotoGP you know that anything can happen. The event is located in Phillip Island, Victoria on the 25th until the 27th October.
4. Handpicked Festival, SA
Hidden amongst vineyards and gum trees, unplug and reconnect with barefoot dancing, picnics on the lawn, amazing wine, world class music, laid back vibes and a dash of surprise. The Handpicked Festival is a carefully curated journey of the sense, handpicked just for you. The even is located in Langhorne Creek, South Australia on the 9th of November.
5. Spirit of the Land Festival, NSW
This festival is a colourful and vibrant celebration of the land. With artistic works, boutique markets, fabulous foods, gardens, live entertainment, vintage vehicle displays, balloon flights, helicopter rides and free children’s train rides, the Festival is a fantastic experience for friends and family to enjoy. A highlight of the Festival is the National Farm Art Awards. Discover creative and talented masterpieces fashioned from recycled metal, rusty old farm materials and elements of the land. With a prize of AUD10,000 for the overall winner, these unique sculptures are more than good, they are amazing! This festival is located in Lockhart, NSW and on rom the 12-13th October.
6. Desert Festival, NT
Desert Festival or DesFest takes place in Alice Springs and will run over seven weeks from 29 August to 12 October. Presented by Red Hot Arts Central Australia, DesFest is an exposition of dynamic events encompassing local and interstate theatre, music, arts and performance.
7. Floriade, ACT
Australia’s biggest celebration of spring returns to Commonwealth Park in Canberra from Saturday 14 September until Sunday 13 October 2019. With over one million blooms on display and free entry, Floriade is the perfect place to experience the beauty of spring.
8. Bloomin Tulips Festival, TAS
Bloomin’ Tulips is a festival of sense stimulating events celebrating the flush of spring colour in the small coastal town of Wynyard on the north west coast of Tasmania. The event is themed Colours of Wynyard to celebrate the spring flowering of the tulips at Van Diemen Quality Bulb Farm on Table Cape. The major event within the three week calendar of events will be the Bloomin’ Tulips Festival – a one day event to be held on Saturday 12 October 2019 in Wynyard, Tasmania.
