South Coast Escape in the ACT

16th Nov 2020

Make the most of your summer by heading down along the stunning south coast to enjoy pristine oceans and plenty of outdoor activities.

Day 1 – Canberra to Huskisson

Kick off your weekend escape by heading 195 kms to Huskisson, on the Jervis Bay shores.  With its sandy white beaches and crystal blue waters, Huskisson is home to abundant marine life – so keep an eye out!

Spend your time kayaking, snorkelling or paddle boarding around the magnificent Jervis Bay. If you’re interested in having a go at scuba diving, the Dive Jervis Bay team offer some of the best diving experiences in Australia. While you’re out enjoying the water, you may even be lucky enough to meet some dolphins, seals or little penguins.

After you’ve made the most of the Jervis Bay, we recommend taking the short drive to the Booderee National Park. Here, you can explore the traditional Aboriginal land with a selection of stunning bush walks and beaches, home to plenty of native wildlife.

Day 2 – Huskisson to Batemans Bay

Set out for your next destination 108 kms along the south coast to reach Batemans Bay.

Discover this coastal wonderland by swimming, snorkelling, surfing or kayaking around the bay. If you enjoy fishing, be sure to have your rod ready as the Batemans Marine Park offers some great opportunities.

The Clyde River National Park is a less than 20-minute drive and offers a beautiful natural playground you could spend hours exploring. With plenty of water sport opportunities, bush walks and tree-lined foreshores there’s endless amount of adventure here. For some incredible scenic views of the Clyde River, be sure to check out the Holmes Lookout.

Choose from a selection of bayside eateries for a meal – Batemans Bay is known for its fresh seafood and oysters.

Day 3 – Batemans Bay to Canberra

The drive back home is 148 kms inland to reach Canberra. We recommend stopping in Bungendore for lunch at The George Bar and Dining Hotel which first opened in 1938 (a year after this historic town was established) before wandering around town and explore some of the cute specialty and gift shops before continuing the drive home.
