Top weekend destinations in WA for couples

Get ready for the ultimate couples’ getaway in WA with our latest update for the ‘Holiday Here This Year Summer Road Trip’ series. With some of Australia’s best beaches, abundant nature and endless opportunities for adventure – you’re sure to be heading home with plenty of memories to cherish.

Weekender 1: Margaret River

Our first weekend retreat will take you along the coast to Margaret River. Featuring breathtaking views along and an award-winning wine scene, this is the perfect stop for some quality couple time.

Kick off your weekend by relaxing on the sand with a good book or try your hand at stand-up paddle boarding. Margaret River is also known as one of the best big-wave locations, so our surfing couples are sure to enjoy hours out in the ocean. You may also like to explore some of the hidden gems like Boodjidup Beach or Castle Rock Bay.

Jewel Cave in Augusta is also worth the visit for an incredible caving experience. Book a tour to explore the crystal-encrusted walls and the fossilised remains of Tasmanian Tigers within the cave. This is sure to create an unforgettable experience to share. Next, you’re in for a treat with the surrounding National Parks just waiting to be discovered. The Wooditjup National Park is home to some amazing forest experiences with plenty of walking and biking tracks to explore. Alternatively, the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park offers breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and is abundant with further caving opportunities.

Next up? Indulge in everything the celebrated wine region has to offer. Home to over 120 world class wineries, the possibilities are endless. For one of the best dining experiences, we can’t go past the Voyager Estate. Alternatively, Margaret River also offers a variety of breweries and distilleries if that is more to your tasting.

Wrap up a beautiful night together by watching the gorgeous sunset over the Indian Ocean at Surfer’s Point in Prevelly. This short drive is well worth the visit and is sure to add the perfect touch to a romantic weekend.

Weekender 2: Esperance

Our next location is Esperance. This slice of paradise is sure to create an unforgettable couples’ getaway with its picturesque beaches and connection to nature.

Your first stop is Lucky Bay, within the Cape Le Grand National Park. This is Australia’s whitest beach and featured stunning turquoise waters and perfect swimming conditions. Lucky Bay is also a popular destination among the local kangaroos who you’re sure to meet along the way. Make sure you take the time to appreciate the Cape Le Grand National Park in its entirety with a hike along the Le Grand Coastal Trail and up Frenchman Peak.

If you want a little more adventure, you can set out on a four-wheel drive beach safari or an island cruise.  If history is more your thing, book an eco-discovery tour with Kepa Kurl to learn about Esperance’s indigenous heritage, guided by a traditional Aboriginal owner. Alternatively, The Esperance Museum is also worth the look for a glimpse into the history of this iconic location.

Get involved in some healthy competition at the Esperance Mini Golf. Featuring both indoor and outdoor fun, this sure to create an afternoon filled with plenty of laughs. After burning off your energy with mini golf, take the quick 10-minute drive to Lucky Bay Brewing for a refreshing drink.

Finally, the Esperance Great Ocean Drive is a 40 km loop you won’t want to miss. With breathtaking views of the coast and endless opportunities to stop for a swim or bush walk, this is sure to be highlight to your trip.

Weekender 3: Collie

Our final weekend destination is Collie, a 201km drive from Perth. This scenic location is full of natural beauty and offers the ideal escape for some needed relaxation.

Discover Collie’s rich coal mining history with a visit to the Coalfields Museum before venturing into the Replica Underground Coal Mine. The nearby Wellington National Park is a wonderland of incredible bush walks and stunning views.

A must for every couple visiting Collie is the Honeymoon Pool within the Wellington National Park. This picturesque swimming hole is the perfect location to set the mood for an unforgettable weekend together. Float gently along the current side by side, or splash into the water from the diving platform. Then, enjoy a picnic at the terraced picnic area – complete with barbecues and some tables.

During your stay, you’ll also love the bright blue waters of Stockton Lake and Black Diamond Lake. After the initial feeling of awe, enjoy the day by relaxing alongside and swimming together in the sparkling water.
