Most Instagrammable Autumn holiday spots

15th Apr 2021

With the change in season comes a stunning colour transformation across most Australian towns. Tree lined streets turn from green to a bright red and orange, wine regions focus more of red wine and hearty meals, and winter woollies are encouraged.

While most people may prefer to travel when the sun is out, Autumn is the perfect time of year to hop in the RV and take a trip and make the most of the stunning scenery. Plus, Autumn is a great time to update your Instagram with some stunning season images.

Here are five of the best Instagrammable destinations in Australia to make the most of the Autumn season.

High Country, Victoria

The High Country in Victoria is one of the best places to visit in Autumn, especially if you’re looking for the perfect Instagram post. As soon as autumn hits, these quaint alpine villages turn into a picturesque dream. The tree lined streets transform from green to orange and brown, pubs start introducing mulled wine, and Bright even hosts an Autumn Festival (which has been postponed for 2021). Our favourite towns in the area include Beechworth, Bright and Myrtleford.

Barossa, South Australia

Autumn is one of the best times to visit the Barossa region. Known for its many vineyards, Autumn is when vintage season kicks off which means the season is a buzz with wine makers and harvesters. From 14th – 18th April 2021, you will see the Barossa Vintage Festival – a huge celebration of food, wine and of course… vintage! With the cooler weather comes beautiful colours of orange and red on the trees, giving you a great photo background for your Jayco van. It is also a good time to cozy up in a campsite with an open fire. Plus, Autumn is a great time for red wine which the Barossa is known for – make sure you ‘cheers’ for the camera.

Hobart, Tasmania

Autumn is one of the best seasons to travel to Tasmania – basing yourself out of Hobart. The cool weather leads to a huge change in landscape across the Hobart area and their many National Parks, with all trees going from green to golden red and orange. One of the best things to see is the ‘turning of the fagus’, a cold loving tree that only grows in Tassie. In April and May, the trees turn to tones of rich tones of rusty red and gold. It is certainly a sight to see. Elsewhere in the area, enjoy the Huon Valley Cider Trail or many vineyards in the area.

South West Region, Western Australia

While WA might be best known for other times of the year, Autumn is a wonderful time to visit the South West Region of WA. Known for its wine production, there are some stunning wineries in and around Margaret River. Because the weather isn’t as hot as the summer months, it is also a great time to camp in the Blackwood River National Park. Here, you can hike some beautiful trails and get that perfect shot for the ‘Gram.

Bowral, New South Wales

Located just 120 kilometres from Sydney, Bowral is well renowned as a ‘must visit’ destination during the Autumn months. Similar to the High-Country area in Victoria, the area turns into a golden wonderland. One of the most stunning places to visit is Moidart Gardens which has five acres of mature trees that turn over autumn. It is a great place to get snap happy with the kids, surrounded by Autumn leaves.
