Our Favourite 5 Holiday Spots by Jayco Vanbassadors, The Bergs

With the weather warming up across most of Australia, we asked one of our amazing Jayco Vanbassadors, Jade Sutcliffe to share her family’s favourite holiday spots.

For Jade and her family, there are a few key things they look for when it comes to the perfect destination. They love visiting small towns where they can soak up all the region has to offer and truly switch off and relax. Plus, as a family of avid surfers, it needs to be known for its waves.

Here are Jade’s favourite spots and campsites – hopefully you can find some inspiration for your next family road trip.

Crescent Head, NSW

Hands down, our favourite holiday spot is Crescent Head. It is smack bang in the middle of Sydney and Brisbane so it makes for the perfect destination from either NSW or QLD. While it is a small town, it has everything you could possibly need, including an amazing bakery. We stay at The Crescent Head Holiday park which backs onto the beach and Killick Creek.

There are some incredible surf breaks in and around Crescent Heads. Some of our favourites are Big Hill, Queens Beach and Racecourse Point. No matter what the wind is, you’ll always be able to find a surf beach in Crescent Head.

They also have this amazing creek called Killick Creek that flows with the tide. You can get your surfboard or your any inflatable object and jump in at one end and you can float down to the other. It’s a super child-friendly activity and good for families who might not be into surfing or beaches.

Coolum, QLD

If we want to stay in Queensland and have a quick getaway, we can’t go past Coolum. It is such a great town right on the coast and it is warm almost all year round. We always stay at the Coolum Caravan Park.

As well as plenty of cafes in town, there is a great skate park and also some great surf spots. We also love all the beach walks and bike tracks. There is a great bike path between Coolum and Peregian Beach which is about 6km each way.

Yamba, NSW

This is another one of our favourite spots. It is like what Byron was back in the day – a super cool coastal town with a really laid-back feel that isn’t super busy.

There are three caravan parks in the town so plenty to choose from. If you want the ultimate kid caravan park, look no further than Blue Dolphin. It has a huge pool with a swim up bar and a great playground.

Every time we visit Yamba we go to Angourie. It is about a 10-minute drive from Yamba and is the tiniest town but is home to one of the best surfing spots in the country, Angourie Point. It is pretty heavy so not recommended for new surfers. There are also some beautiful walks around Yuraygi National Park.

Another good part about Yamba is the huge break wall that divides Yamba and Iluka. It’s about a kilometre long and its paved so you can run along it, or ride bikes – it’s really nice to go out there and watch the sunrise.

Illaru Camping Ground, NSW

This isn’t a destination but rather a camping ground, however it’s right on the beach so it is hard to go past when you want a great weekend away. Located near Wooli and Minnie Water, Illaru Camping Ground sits in the Yuraygir National Park and has about 70 camping sites. There are toilets, barbeques and drinking water.

We love it because it really is in the middle of nowhere. It also helps us show the kids true camping as we’re so off grid. We have to cook on the gas cooker each night and ration water. It is so peaceful, but there is also plenty of walking tracks and of course the beach right by.
