Top Outdoor Adventures

18th May 2020

Heading outdoors and getting active is one of the great Australian pastimes. From sports to picnics, we love being outside and nothing is better than getting together with your family, friends or partner and partaking in an outdoor adventure. You might even like doing them on your own!

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite outdoor adventures to bring some adventure inspiration to your next holiday! Most of the activities can be done Australia-wide and are suitable for families, couples or single travellers.

Bike Riding

Bike riding is a fantastic activity that can be done on your own, with someone else or in a group and no matter where you are in Australia, you can find a great bike path!

If you don’t have your own bikes or don’t have the means to take your bikes on your holiday, there are plenty of bike hire options in each state. It is also common for tourist areas to have bikes available to hire.

Kayaking and canoeing

These water-based activities are also great for families, couples and singles and can be done on rivers, lakes or in the ocean. Kayaking and canoeing are also awesome ways to see the country’s landscape from another angle. Some of our favourite kayak and canoe spots are:

• The Murray River (in Victoria, South Australia or New South Wales
• Noosa River or the Noosa Everglades (Noosa, Queensland)
• Onkaparinga River Recreation Park (Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia)
• Cape Byron Marine Park (Byron Bay, New South Wales)
• Ningaloo Marine Park (Exmouth, Western Australia)

Snowboarding and skiing

Whether you are an adrenaline junkie or like to take things a little slower, there are plenty of options for every skill level when it comes to snowboarding and skiing, and there are so many stunning ski fields to experience including Ben Lomand in Tasmania, Perisher in New South Wales and Mount Buller in Victoria.

Hiking

Another great outdoor adventure is hiking. Australia is home to some of the most beautiful national parks and tens of thousands of hiking trails that are suitable from beginners through to experienced multi-day trail hikers.

If you still aren’t sure where to start, a great tip is to check out the local visitor information centre when you arrive at a new destination – the staff are sure to have some insider knowledge.

Horse Riding

Horse riding is a fantastic outdoor adventure to consider for your next holiday, weekend trip or afternoon off! It is one of those activities that can suit all experience levels, even if you’ve never ridden a horse before! It is also a great way to get off the beaten track and explore the great outdoors. If you’re an experienced rider, why not check out one of the many adventure horse riding treks on offer? There are quite a few companies that offer longer rides and treks.
